Pumpherston United v Mid Calder Colts - Bob Lambie Cup: 14.03.2010
Pumpherston United 95's started this eagerly awaited League Cup game quickly, within 3 minutes they had register the first goal through a great strike from Wayne.

1-0 Pumpherston

Two minutes after this Mid Calder picked up a free kick in a seamingly harmless position midway within their own half. However the well struck free kick found it's way into the Pumpherston box but was calmly cleared to safety by Jack. Seven minutes later however a mix up in defence gifted the visitors an equaliser, Jack' s clearance rebounded off of fellow defender Jamie and into the back of the net past a stunned Scott.

1-1

Mid Calder grabbed the initiative at this point and after 7 minutes they got their second goal of the game to take them into the lead. Scotty almost got the game back on level terms immediatley but had to watch his driven shot rebound to safety off the stancheon. Minutes later Kye found himself 6 yards in front of goal but a great reaction save from the Mid Calder keeper saw the ball rise up over the crossbar and out for a Pumpherston corner. The ball was floated back in but headed over by Pumpherston for a Mid Calder kick.

2-1 Mid Calder

Pumpherston didn't need to wait too long to get back on terms though; a finely struck 18 yard strike from James on 21 minutes saw the 1 goal defecit finally cancelled out. Mid Calder surged forward from the retake and a well hit strike from just inside the box went just wide of Pumpherston's right post. It was Pumpherston's turn to take the lead again on 30 minutes though, this time Wayne slotted a ball into Kye on 6 yards and Kye burried the shot across the keeper and into the back of the net.

3-2 Pumpherston

Pumpherston started to impose on the game. Jimmy subbed on James (Jimbo) and received an almost immediate response; A corner moments later was knocked back out to the edge of the box but hit just over the Mid Calder bar by James, on 35 minutes Jimbo moved into space at the back post and only needed to redirect Kye's fizzing cross into the net from barely a yard out to make it 4-2.

4-2 Pumpherston

Mid Calder weren't done yet and showed great determination. 2 minutes after Pumpherston stretched the lead Mid Calder received a throw in on the far touchline right on the halfway line. Pumpherston failed to clear their lines from the throw and a Mid Calder striker found himself with a clear shot from just within the box. The well hit strike found the back of the net and brough Mid Calder back into contention. Just before the end of the first half Kye managed to get in another great shot but the Mid Calder keeper matched it with an equally good save.

Half Time: 4-3 Pumpherston United.
Into the second half and it was Mid Calder who almost found an equaliser in the 1st minute after the restart. A free kick 25 yards out sailing literally inches over. Pumpherston managed to stretch their lead again when 5 minutes in Angus dribbled the ball to about 25 yards out and fed through to Ally, Ally stepped into the box and drove the ball into the net, under the Mid Calder Goalie.

5-3 Pumpherston

Two minutes later Corey was introduced to the game and this time did have an immediate impact, collecting the ball in the D, central to goal he hit a great shot for Pumpherston's 6th and surely the goal to seal it?

6-3 Pumpherston

Mid Calder weren't about to give up though. After winning a series of throws on the near side they pressured the Pumpherston goal. Mid Calder's striker drove parallel to the Pumphy 18 yard line before finding space and letting go of a superb strike that drew appreciation from both sides.

6-4 Pumpherston

Two minutes later Pumpherston were back in Mid Calder's danger area and it was again the Mid Calder keeper that was to superbly deny a scrambled Pumpherston shot before the ball was cleared to safety. 20 minutes into the half and Corey came off for James who had been replaced earlier. Mid Calder grabbed the momentry lapse during the reshuffle to grab their 5th and put the presure back onto the home side.

6-5 Pumpherston

At this stage a clearance from Pumpherston saw the match ball wedged well and truely into the top of probably one of the tallest trees surrounding the park, the delayed restart was a welcome moment for the players in both squads to grab a breath while the ball was replaced. Mid Calder received two free kicks within minutes from practically the same spot 25 yards out as their earlier free kick, the first was hit a foot over the bar while the second more driven shot was soaked up in the Pumpherston wall.

The last attempts on goal belonged to Pumpherston though. Mid Calder's keeper made another great save as he dived right on his goal line to tip a Scotty strike around the post and away for a corner, the last strike was from Wayne about 6 yards out from the resultant corner but came back off the base of the near post and was hooked away.

Final Score - Pumpherston United 6 Mid Calder Colts 5.
