 Pumpherston United 4-1 Queensferry Thistle

Before this eagerly anticipated league match got under way both team captains lead their respective sides in a minutes silence ahead of Remembrance Sunday.

As the match got under way it was Queensferry that started brightest their early advantage kept the Pumpherston defence on the back foot. Queensferry were rewarded for their pressure with the first goal of the game with a strong run and finish by their No9.

0-1

Strangely the goal seemed to settle Pumpherston down and with Craig moving to play a holding midfield role he was bringing Jason and Kieran more into play giving the team some width. Pumpherston started to create some chances of their own in fact the first chance fell for Jason D but he pulled his shot wide of the post, he seemed to grow in confidence from that chance and was causing Queensferry problems with his pace and willingness to take on his opponent, indeed he collected the ball just inside the Queensferry half and was off on a run down the left wing beating his marker and making his way into the box delivering a low shot across the keeper and into the inside netting of the goal to draw Pumpherston level.

1-1

With both Ryan & Scott selected to play in central defence both were working hard holding their respective positions and limiting Queensferry’s loan striker to few chances in the remainder of the half letting both full backs push on and support the midfield. The 3rd goal of the game came after a Pumpherston attack broke down in a packed penalty area a defensive clearance from Queensferry fell to Anthony on the edge on the box and his looping shot sailed over the keeper into the back of the net.

With the second half under way both defences were limiting the goal scoring opportunities until some intelligent play by Jason D off the ball drew the Queensferry back line out of position that made space for Jacob to exploit and increase Pumpherston’s lead with a cool finish high into the back of the net.

3-1

Queensferry seen two attempts at the Pumphy goal go narrowly wide of the post., goals that would have seem them draw the scores level.

However the goal that killed the game for them was a well worked move - an interchange of passes between Kieran & Jason D frees the winger down the left and with a neat ball inside to find Kieran again in some space he finished the move and the scoring for the day with a low drive to find the back of the net.

After the early setback of going 1 down the team increased their work rate and effort in their support play on & off the ball and seen the benefit of their industry in turning the game around.

A word of acknowledgement for the Queensferry team that showed in passages of play why they are presently sitting top of the league as well as showing good attitude for their football.
