The development of the training grounds.

Some time ago Pumpherston United Chair Person Kev McGuigan conceived an idea that if completed would provide generations of youngsters at Pumpherston United FC with a safe, purpose built environment to develop their passion for football under the guidance of the club’s dedicated coaches - no matter what the weather may bring.

Almost a year on and Kevin’s vision nears completion. A purpose built, floodlit training facility is busily being constructed. It comes complete with sheltered seating areas for coaches and pitch side viewing for players and parents alike...although on day 1 this seemed some way off.

The project started during December 2007 when Kevin approached Pumpherston Juniors about the area of land directly beside Recreation Park that was once Pumpherston Juniors training pitch. It had not had been used for a while and Kevin wanted to develop the ground back into an outdoor training facility.

The beginning

The area in question was overgrown and would require a large amount of conviction and hard work to turn into anything that would even resemble a suitable playing surface. On agreement with the Pumphy Juniors Kevin approached his Pumpherston United colleagues for assistance in developing the land.

With the support of Jimmy, Charlie and Tam of the 95's, Phil and Andy from the 97's and the help and support of others from the Club, the pitch has grown towards completion.

Now, 11 months on the area of ground is hardly recognisable from it's beginnings...

The progression of the training facilities

A remarkable piece of dedication, vision and a desire to succeed will provide a long term solution for training facilities for all Pumpherston United teams, present and future. Thank you to everyone who has assisted with this project - your help is really appreciated.

The construction of this pitch from its beginnings is an example of how commitment, belief and hard work can achieve results . It's easy to see how this can be transferred onto the pitch and hopefully all teams will continue to display the same outlook that Kevin Mcguigan and those who have assisted him in realising his vision have displayed over the past 11 months.
