20.08.2011 - WLSDA Website returns:

The West Lothian Soccer Development Association's official website has returned following a long period of downtime due to an unauthorised access several months ago. The website which provides information for soccer sevens teams (including our very own Pumpherston United 2002 team) has returned minus its popular forum. It has been determined that the forum increases the possibility of the site being taken down again so instead a facebook page has been provided for information exchange and questions.

19.08.2011 - WLAYFC Updates:

The West Lothian Association of Youth Football Club's official website is currently going through it's new season updates. The website provides an online presence for the WLAYFC, an association which administers 6 age groups (13's, 14's, 15's, 16's, 17's and 19's), encompassing over 120 eleven-a-side teams and over 2500 players and officials. Our own 1995, 1997 and 1998 squads are member teams of the WLSDA. The Website also has an extremely popular forum which covers all of the association age groups.

19.08.2011 - 2011/12 Season gets underway:

The weekend saw the return of 11-a-side football for Pumpherston United as the 98, 97 and 95 squads kicked off their under 14, under 15 and under 17 seasons respectively. All of our 11-a-side teams play in the WLAYFC while our 2002 squad plays in the WLSDA.

Visit the Team Pages to view the new season league tables.

19.08.2011 - season 2011 returns for PUFC 2002:

Pumpherston United 2002 played Broxburn Athletic Colts White in the first WLSDA game to follow season 2011's summer break. The boys put in a great performance against their hosts in what turned out to be quite a warm Saturday morning. Well played both teams!

01-07-2011 - Closed season:

Football takes a break for all of our teams from today. The 11-a-side teams will take a well earned break before moving up to the next age group from August 2011. Meanwhile, the 2002 squad will enjoy a 6 week summer break before getting back to their 2011 season, again from August 2011. Weel done to all of our squads for all the hard work over the past season.

04-06-2011 Murieston United FC Football Festival:

The Pumpherston United 2002 squad had a great day out at Murieston United FC's annual Football Festival yesterday. The boys enjoyed 4 games of football in pretty decent conditions while friends and family looked on. It was great to see hundreds of players from the 2002 and 1999 age groups fill the Bankton Mains parks, all of which received a participation medal for their efforts.

Well done to all the boys for the efforts during the games and to parents and family for supporting the boys throughout the 6 hour day.

Interested players should contact Philip Hay on 07850 041 980 or email us. Click the image above for more information.

23-05-2011 Sponsored Walk:

There was a great turn out for Pumpherston United's sponsored walk on Sunday. A break in the weather provided good conditions for the walk through Almondell Country park and back to Pumpherston by way of the Viaduct and the old miner's path. The walkers had also been tasked with finding and solving riddles that were hidden along the route. This created and extra bit of interest and a wee bit of fun competition on the day (well done to the 02s and 98s who narrowly pipped the 97s and 95s in the riddle task)!

Team work was the name of the day though as all of Pumpherston United's teams were represented by players with support from parents and coaches too so thank you from the club to everyone for getting involved and pulling together! Jilly, Sandra and Dawn provided some excellent much needed eats, drinks and treats back at the cabin to nourish the weary walkers!

We aim to bring you news on the funds raised from the weekend's walk very soon!

18-05-2011 President's Cup - Semi Final win!

The 1998 squad secured a place in the final of the President's Cup after winning a tightly contested semi final; 4-3 away to Uphall Diamonds. The cup final fixture will provide a fitting reward to the team who have worked hard all season under the guidance of John Lloyd and Kevin McGuigan. Good luck to the lads from everyone at the club. Enjoy your big day!

17-05-2011 Sponsored Walk:

Our sponsored walk takes place this weekend, Sunday May 22nd. We leave the car park at the Visitors Centre around 11am and will arrive back at Pumpherston's training pitch between 12 and 12.30 by way of the viaduct in the country park and the old miner's path. We've a few wee riddles/puzzles to find and solve on the way and maybe even a wee bite to eat at the end if you'd like to hang about! As well as raising funds for the club it should also be a good couple of hours out and about! Hope you can join us!

16-02-2011 - 1995 County Cup win:

Pumpherston United 1995 booked a place in the 2010/2011 WLAYFC County Cup Semi-Finals after a 3-0 win at home over Livingston Hearts White. The first half ended 0-0 after Livi Hearts frustrated the Pumpherston attack with a setup favouring a defence. Pumphy enjoyed the majority of attacking play but Livingston Hearts always looked to threaten on the break and from set pieces.

Into the second half and it was Pumpherston that picked up the pace. The first goal came 10 minutes into the second half when the ball was fed into Wayne, with his back to goal 6 yards out he turned on the spot and riffled the ball into the back of the net. Seven minutes later James doubled Pumpherston's lead with a brilliant individual goal. Receiving the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box he made for the bye line before cutting inside, taking the ball past three defenders, and then coolly slotting the ball home from close range.

Livingston Hearts were immediatley on the offensive and almost got straight back into the game after a shot hit from just outside the box forced a good save low down from Scott in the Pumpherston goals. Moments later a second Livingston Hearts wave was only stopped by an excellent double save from Scott. Pumpherston's final goal came via Ally who brought the ball into the box after picking it up from the left wing. Ally let a shot go from about 10 yards out and after the keeper parried, Corey latched onto the rebound to seal the win. Well played both teams!

15.01.2011 Pumpherston back in action:

Week two of the 2011 WLAYFC football fixtures resulted in just 1 of the 3 eleven a-side teams returning to league action. The 98s match away to Blackburn and the 95s game away to Armadale Sports Club had already been cancelled due to waterlogged pitches however, an early morning pitch inspection at Inveralmond High School confirmed it was game on against Queensferry Thistle for Andy and Philip's 1997 squad.

The match started evenly and despite a couple of early efforts from Pumpherston it was Queensferry Thistle who took the lead. As the first half continued the home team turned it round through some good midfield play, Queensferry however were always threatening. Pumpherston did stretch their lead to 3-1 before the visitors pulled one back to make it 3-2. Another surge from Pumphesrton saw the lead stretched to 4-2 but once again Queensferry pulled a goal back to make the final 5 minutes edgy for the home support.

Both sets of players deserve a round of applause for playing through persistent strong winds and frequent downpours!

Well done lads - it was an exciting encounter! (Photos on the 97's page soon).

11-01-2011 - PUFC 2002 squad returns to training:

After a good warm up, some ball skills and a practice with the Futsal the players were each presented with a trophy to recognise their hard work, commitment and efforts over the past year.

The 2002 squad's new season begins in March however, the lads have 6 weeks of Futsal to look forward to before league kicks off, courtesy of a West Lothian Soccer Development Association programme.

08-01-2011 More snowfall halts latest WLAYFC fixtures:

Just as the first fixtures of 2011 were about to kick off the snow arrived over night and ended any hope of football for many of the county's clubs this weekend. It's been quite a number of weeks since the players were involved in league action, going back to the weekend of November 27th/28th for most however, with the ground frozen solid beneath the latest accumulation of snow, it looks like it may be a few more weeks yet before clubs within our West Lothian Association of Youth Football take to the pitch again.

05-01-2011 training returns:

Training resumes for our 11 a-side squads. First back are the 1998 squad who started training from today,  January 5th on Pumpherston's Astro park. The 1995 squad return on Thursday 6th at 6pm while the 97 squad get back to training from Monday January 10th (6.30 @ Deans High). The fixtures for this weekend have also been updated on the individual team pages.

12-12-2010 Final PUFC Lottery draw of 2010:

Winning lottery numbers for week 43 are 03, 10 and 26. No entries matched all 3 numbers so the prize fund for the next draw is £477. The lottery is taking a break for the holidays so the next draw will take place on Sunday January 9th, 2011.

Thank you to all of our lottery collectors who have done a great job every week and to everyone who has taken part over the past year, your support of the club is very much appreciated. Congratulations to this year's 7 PUFC lottery winners who won £841 between them!

12-12-2010 2002 Squad's first 7 a-side season completed:

The 2002 squad's first season at under sevens within the WLSDA has come to an end. Within the development leagues the season runs from March to November so, with the final game being called off due to a snow bound pitch it's provided a quiet end to the 02's first season however, there will be plenty of news and updates for this squad before the league action starts again so be sure to keep checking pumpherston-united.co.uk for the latest information. Updates are also available on our facebook and Twitter pages!

It's been a great season for the boys and they've come on leaps and bounds, aided by the springboard of soccer fours last winter. 2002 coaches Sean and Davie are delighted with the progress that the boys have made; the boys are playing well as a squad and are really starting to show confidence as well as individual skills and abilities. Keep practising through the holidays though boys, we'll be back playing in March but will be back in training well before then, we can't wait!

12-12-2010 WLAYFC Website news:

All games scheduled for this year have now been cancelled due to the adverse weather and considering next weeks weather forecast, the next games for all WLAYFC teams have now been scheduled for 8/9th Jan.

Also, the monthly meeting planned for 6th December has been cancelled due to the adverse conditions, the next meeting will now be on the 10th January 2010. The executive of WLAYFC would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy new year.

09-12-2010 Livingston FC invite WLSDA clubs to their home game against Airdrie FC on Sunday 02/01/11.

Our Association have 250 parent and adult child tickets available (totalling 500 people) for WLSDA teams for the above fixture.

Please note: Children are aged 16 and under, the ticket is only valid if a child is accompanied by an adult.

Parents/guardians - please email feedback@pumpherston-united.co.uk if you want tickets (include your name, team age group and number of tickets required). Those that have already requested tickets by text have been accounted for. We can't guarantee that everyone will receive tickets but we will try our best!! Have a look at Livingston FC's website for more information on the club.

28-11-2010 - Lottery draw delayed:

The current Siberian chill hasn't only caused problems with Pumpherston United football matches, it's also caused a delay on the latest Pumpherston United Club Lottery. The last draw was due on November 28th however; because the funds and sheets need to be in before the draw takes place it's proving very difficult to get all the sheets and entry fees together due to travelling within West Lothian being nigh on impossible. We don't think it would be fair for any of our regular participants to miss out so rest assured, the draw will only take place once all of the entries and fees are in. We will attempt to complete last weekend's draw on 30/11/2010.

Updates available through our website, Twitter and facebook pages.

27/28-11-2010 - Winter blast results in more cancelled fixtures:

Snow sweeping across the UK from east to west has arrived in West Lothian causing a fixture white out. Not a single WLSDA or WLAYFC fixture went ahead in West Lothian on either Saturday the 27th or Sunday the 28th of November as a result of the record snowfall. With the frozen flakes set to continue to fall well into the midweek, next weekend's fixtures are unfortunately already a major doubt.

14-11-2010 - Highest ever PUFC Lottory prize fund:

The Pumpherston United FC lottery has it's highest prize fund available since it kicked off back on the 5th of November 2009. Since the first entries were collected and first draw was made there have been 3 jackpot winners who have collected £641 between them, £121, £250 and the biggest so far £270. In addition there have been three £50 winners courtesy of the monthly gauranteed winner prize draw.

To be in with a chance of winning the current prize fund of £408 you need to select 3 numbers between 1 and 30, enter them via one of the club's lottery collectors on an official lottery sheet along with the £1 entry fee. Entries can be made on any training or match day. Match all 3 numbers drawn to win all or a share of the prize fund.

Thanks to everyone who has been a part of the lottery so far. The lottery raises funds for the club which help to ensure coaches and players have the benefit of good quality, safe training facilities and equipment. It's all thanks to you and very much appreciated!

14-11-2010 - Cancelled fixture:

The West Lothian Association of Youth Football Clubs A league fixture between Armadale Sports Club Colts and Pumpherston United FC 1995 this morning fell foul of persistent overnight rain. A waterlogged pitch at Armadale's Upper Bathville parks meant that the under 16's fixture was called off early this morning.

13-11-2010 - Results:

Pumpherston United FC 2002 enjoyed a good game at home against Newlands United in the West Lothian Soccer Development Association under 9 league. The game was played at a very good level by both teams. The non competative fixture was very exciting to watch and included great pieces of individual and team football. There were some cracking goals to see and lucky spectators even got to see a great penalty save from the Pumphy keeper!

John and Kevin's under 13 squad moved into the second round of the Jim Brady after a good 5-2 win away from home at Blackburn United. A good performance from Pumpherston United FC 1998 saw them take a solid lead at half time (4-1). A goal from each team in the second half meant the boys maintained their advantage to progress further in the A league cup. The Pumphy under 13 keeper also pulled off a great penalty save during this game!

Pumpherston United FC 1997 secured a Richard Douglas first round A league cup win after they held out for a 4-3 win at home over Bannockburn Amatuers. The game started very well for Pumpherston and by half time they had scored 4 very good goals to take a comfortable lead however, Bannockburn weren't going out without challenging back. Pumpherston conceded 2 goals within 10 minutes of the restart to an away side who had come back out at a sprint.  15 minutes later we were 3 down which set up a nervy final 10 minutes. Pumpherston regrouped for these final stages of the game and limited Bannockburn to their own half for longer periods as the clock edged towards 70 minutes. A close but well played game secures Pumpherston a good win and a round two appearance.

10-11-2010 - Fixtures added:

All four Pumpherston United FC fixtures have been added to the individual team pages for this weekend's games. On Saturday the 2002 squad gets the action started when they meet Newlands United at Inveralmond Community High School for a Soccer Sevens under 9 fixture.

Saturday also sees the 1998 team away to Blackburn United for a Jim Brady Cup (U13 League Cup) first round tie while the 1997 team also experience cup action, this time it's the Richard Douglas Cup (U14 League Cup) against Bannockburn Amatuers at Inveralmond CHS. On Sunday the under 16  squad travels to play Armadale Sports Club United in the WLAYFC under 16 A league.

Good luck to all the teams playing this weekend. Hopefully the weather holds off to allow the squads to enjoy the football.

04-11-2010 - Rag Bag fundraising project:

Your donations will be collected together then sent off to be sorted and recycled. Shortly the club will receive it's very own Rag Bag recycling bank for you to drop your textile donations in 24/7!

Out of this vast tonnage around 1.2 million tonnes is sent unnecessarily to landfill. With our help The Rag Bag Scheme diverts some of this tonnage away from landfill, directly helping the environment, while helping to provide good quality clothing to some of the poorest developing nations in the world. 03-11-2010 - Weekend Fixtures 06/07 November 2010:

Pumpherston's fixtures this weekend see the 1998 squad away to Livingston Hearts Maroon in the second round of the County Cup On Saturday November 6th. Also on Saturday, Pumpherston United 1997 travel to Forth for a West Lothian Association of Youth Football Clubs A league match. On Sunday the 2002 squad visits Linlithgow to play BFC Linlithgow Hawks in the West Lothian Soccer Develop Association under 9 league while the 1995 squad finishes off the weekend's fixtures with a 2nd round County Cup challenge at home to Mid Calder Colts. Good luck to all squads this weekend, home and away.

31-10-2010 - Scottish Cup exit:

Pumpherston United 1995 exited the Scottish Cup at the third round stage after a 3-1 defeat away from to Wellhouse United FC. Heavy ground conditions played their part in stalling Pumpherston's usual neat passing game. Well played both teams and well done to Wellhouse BC, all the best for future rounds.

30-10-2010 - Wet weather continues to take it's toll on games:

More frustration this weekend as both the Pumpherston United 1997 and 2002 fixtures were cancelled due to waterlogged pitches at Craigswood and Uphall Station respectively. Pumpherston United 1998 survived by switching venue to Bo'ness. Frustrating times for players, coaches and parents alike especially given the glorious sunshine that is now covering West Lothian! Fingers crossed for the under 16 squad's Scottish Cup tie tomorrow morning in Glasgow and a turn in the weather for next weekend.

23-10-2010 - Wet weather starts to hit fixtures:

Today's game between Pumpherston United U14 at Broxburn Athletic Colts fell foul of the recent wet weather. The WLAYFC 'A' league fixture was called off this morning due to unplayable pitches at Stewartfield. The 2002 game away to Murieston United Red beat the weather but only after it was switched to Murieston's new 3G surface. Both teams enjoyed a 40 minute game on a top quality surface, only to see the sun shine through as things were being cleared up!

01-10-2010 Building work begins. Pumpherston and Uphall Station Primary School - the first School for the future.

The ground for the new Pumpherston and Uphall Station Community Primary School was broken today by Skills Minister Keith Brown.

The school, near Livingston, is the first of those funded through the flagship £1.25 billion Scotland's Schools for the Future programme to get underway. It comes on top of the 300 schools the Scottish Government has already rebuilt or refurbished since 2007.

Mr Brown said: "This is a significant milestone in work to improve Scotland's school estate and comes just a day after news that a record number of school pupils are now in good school accommodation. "The Scottish Government is providing £800 million of investment which will see 55 new schools built the length and breadth of the country through the Scottish Futures Trust, who will also ensure this investment delivers best value for the public. "Curriculum for Excellence will ensure our pupils are in the best position to succeed in a modern world economy, but it is also vital that they are taught in the best learning environments. Our ongoing investment in school buildings will ensure this is the case. "I am confident that once completed, this new primary school will be a flagship Scottish school and the local community and West Lothian as whole will be very proud of it."

Leader of West Lothian Council Peter Johnston added: "The school will serve as a new community 'hub' by integrating modern facilities such as a new library, a multi-purpose hall and PE facilities, which the whole community can use. The great location will provide a natural park setting for the new school as well as creating opportunities for integrating outdoor learning into the curriculum." "Pupils, teachers and parent groups were consulted over the design, and every effort has gone into ensuring the building can be extended in the future, providing extra capacity when new houses are built in the area. Local residents have been waiting for this day for a long time and I'm sure they will be delighted with the new facility."

Barry White, Chief Executive of the Scottish Futures Trust, said: "Pumpherston and Uphall Station Community Primary School is the first well-designed, cost effective and sustainable school to start building as part of Scotland's Schools for the Future Programme, which is managed by the Scottish Futures Trust (SFT). "SFT will ensure all 55 schools in this £1.25 billion programme are delivered at best value to the taxpayer."

26-09-2010 weekend update:

Only three teams in actioin this weekend. The 2002s started the ball rolling when Newlands Thistle came to visit. It was a tough game for the home side with plenty of positives to take forward and a few things to work on in training on Friday. The 98's put in a superb effort against Gairdoch United but it wasn't enough to add to their points tally for the season. The game included three good goals from Pumphy and a penalty save from the Pumpherston Keeper too. Gairdoch eventually ran out 5-3 winners. Keep going boys, the football is getting better and better week on week! The under 16's were guided to a superb 6-1 win over Edinburgh City Colts in the second round of the Scottish Cup by Charles, Jimmy and Tam. 2 goals in the first half in reply to City's opener and 4 goals in 12 minutes in the second half put the tie to rest and earned the lads a third round draw. Well done all!

12-09-2010 Tweeters required:

Pumpherston United are looking for volunteers from the under 13 and under 14 age groups who would be willing to send Twitter updates on behalf of their teams. Pumpherston United have over 100 followers through their Twitter page at the moment however it is hoped that this can be increased through regular updates from each team. It's a great way to raise the profile of the club through regular 'Tweets'. It's really easy to set up, with absolutely no programming knowledge required at all. If you can send a text you can Tweet! In most cases it's completely free to update too. The under 16s already provide pitch side updates to our followers and it's hoped that our other Pumpherston United teams can join in too! If you think you can help please email the club for more information.

12-09-2010 Weekend update:

Mixed results for Pumpherston United FC this weekend; The under 9's got the action underway enjoying a game with lots of twists and turns against Broxburn Athletic White in the WLDSA. Onto the competative football and the under 13 squad were at home to Armadale Sports Club. Despite scoring 3 very good goals they were eventually beaten 9-3. Some good spells of football from the home team though and plenty of positives to take away. Meanwhile in Salisburgh the under 14 squad were being hosted by Springfield Boys Club. Again Pumpherston managed 3 very good goals however the North Lanarkshire club doubled the travelling teams tally to pick up both points. The under 15s were at home on the 12th, hosting Murieston United Blue. The Pumpherston lads were playing very well and after 25 minutes they were 3 goals to the good before seeing out the first half 3-1, conceding an unfortunate own goal with 10 minutes left to play. Murieston rallied into the second half and reduced the deficit to 1 goal on 47 minutes. Pumpherston stretched the lead to 4-2 on the hour however goals on 63 and 80(+2) were enough for Murie to grab a point into added on time.

Well played to all the lads in action this weekend.

The under 14 squad was very unlucky not to progress against Edinburgh South Reds, a single goal deficit couldn't be overturned in regulation time, unlucky lads - great efforts all round from the boys today though!

28-08-2010 Scottish Cup so far:

The under 13s were unfortunate not to be in the Scottish Cup 2nd round after a narrow 2-1 defeat away to Armadale Sports Club Colts. 14.08.2010 - Pumpherston United 2002 @ Bo'ness

The 2002 squad travelled to the district of Falkirk this morning to take part in the first ever Bo'ness festival of football. The players enjoyed five 20 minute games of football against teams from across the Forth Valley, trying out various positions throughout today's matches. It couldn't have been a better day weather wise as spectators basked in the sunshine while the players got down to business! A great opportunity to see all ten lads playing together for the very first time, and in their new stanno strips and tracksuits too. Well played boys, there's obviously some real talent across the Pumphi squad and Sean and Davie are looking forward to working with you for the seasons ahead! Thanks to our hosts Bo'ness Boys Club for arranging todays festival and to the 2002 travelling support for all the encouragement!
