Pumpherston United v Bathgate Rose 24.11.2008 - Richard Douglas Cup Rnd2

Pumpherston United 95's exited the Richard Douglas Cup in the second round following a home defeat by Bathgate Rose at the weekend.

Bathgate Rose started the match extremely well, knocking the ball about at pace and seeming determined not to allow Pumpherston time to settle on the ball. 10 minutes into the game Pumphy conceded the first goal to a good strike from outside the box by Bathgate. The ball never lifted more than a foot off the ground before settling in the bottom corner of the home team's goal.

Despite keeper Scott consistently pulling off some fantastic saves, Pumpherston couldn't limit the damage. A second strike followed shortly after the first and an unfortunate own goal seemed to put the task ahead well out of scope. Bathgate grabbed another two before the end of the first half and it was up hill all the way from there.

Into the second half and things seemed to improve with Pumpherston linking together better than before. Thety started making a little more headway and managed to create a few chances at the Bathgate end. Despite all efforts though we conceded another two goals in the second 35 minutes and with this exited this season's competition.

A tough fixture. Well done to Bathgate Rose and good luck in the rest of the tournament.
