Under 13 County Cup - 17.10.2009

Pumpherston United v Livingston Hearts White

Match Report - J Williamson

Along with the first frost of autumn for many also came the u 13’s first round of the County Cup against Livingston Hearts White at Pumpherston Park.

Pumpherston started brightest and were soon 1-0 up with some determined wing play down the right, finishing with a neat lob to beat the Livi keeper. With the home team pressing to build on their early advantage a quick break from Livi sees the score levelled at 1-1.

A change to the team formation sees Pumpherston close out the midfield and start to play some great through balls for the strikers to attack, with the best being a slide rule pass into the path of the Pumphy striker’s run - ending with a sweet strike from the edge of the box  past the stranded keeper and into the top corner. Along with 4 other well taken goals in the half Pumpherston lead 6-1 when the half time whistle blows.

The second half starts where the first ended for Pumpherston extending their score without reply. A Livi fast break through the well marshalled defence sees the home keeper quick off his line to collect the ball and keep the away side goals tally to 1 for the day however, an unfortunate collision with the on rushing striker sees the brave Pumpherston keeper requiring some treatment before he can continue.

A word for the Livi keeper at this point is needed to acknowledge some great saves as Pumpherston looked to increase their score for the day.

Moments later a powerful run into the box from sees the Pumpherston midfielder up-ended with the resultant penalty being neatly finished into the corner of the net to complete the second hat-rick of the day.

To finish the home sides scoring a sublime chip from the right winger beating the out rushing defenders and keeper to end the scoring for Pumpherston before the final whistle 10-1

It was encouraging to see some of the hard word on the training ground being transferred onto the field of play today and the boys continue in their progress in learning of the game.

A word also for the Livi Hearts boys who showed some good play and attiude for their football.
